What competencies does the graduate have? Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (ME) programme specialising in industrial management aims to qualify engineering experts to work in high technology companies, leading and managing international technology projects. The programme’s mechanical engineering studies include manufacturing and material technologies, 3D modelling, electrical engineering, mechanics, and product design and development. The programme’s industrial management studies include supply chain management, management accounting, B2B marketing, procurement and purchasing, project management, quality management and entrepreneurship. In addition to acquiring industrial engineering know-how, an important part of the programme focuses on developing international competencies, learning how to operate effectively in a variety of interpersonal networks, and cultivating communication, social, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The goal is to educate high-quality team players instead of individual autonomous workers. What kind of learning methods are used in the programme? Mechanical engineering students participate in multi-disciplinary projects along with students from design and business fields in order to develop innovative solutions for specific projects. The work often takes place in 3D printing laboratory as well as in manufacturing techniques laboratory. Students regularly acquire experience in working on project cases provided by the local businesses. The programme includes 30 ECTS of practical training. The students can also participate in international exchange programme during their studies. What kind of career opportunities does the graduate have? Mechanical engineers specialising in industrial management are often employed in positions of experts and managers who are responsible for operational planning and development, as well as business management duties, including sales of technological products and services. They also find employment in public sector organisations, such as in city, state, and local government positions. Third sector organisations can also provide work for mechanical engineers. Typical job titles for ME graduates are, among many others, project engineer, project manager, sales engineer, sales manager, quality engineer, quality manager, purchasing engineer, warehouse manager, production planner, inspection engineer, foreman, development engineer, consultant, and trainer.
