What competencies does the graduate have? The degree programmes in energy and/or environmental engineering provide students with extensive knowledge in energy and/or environmental engineering. During the studies, natural science knowledge in mathematics, physics and chemistry is deepened. Energy Engineering: Student gains expertise in alternative energy production methods, energy use and distribution, and various energy production facilities during the energy engineering studies. The graduate is able to compare the efficiency, economy and impact of different forms of energy on the surrounding society. Environmental Engineering: Student gains competence and forms a view of different environmental sectors, such as water and waste management, air protection, energy technology, and the management and restoration of the polluted environment. The student understands the operation of equipment and processes related to the environmental field. The graduate is able to plan activities in a material- and resource-efficient way, taking also circular economy aspects into account. During the studies, students will also familiarize themselves with environmental legislation and agreements, as well as environmental systems. What kind of learning methods are used in the programme? Studying is practical and focuses on the skills and needs of working life. Alongside theory teaching, a lot of learning takes place in laboratories. In addition to traditional contact teaching, students study in teams and projects and complete online studies. Work placement periods enable a student to meet personal learning objectives according to an area of interest in the field. The student can also undertake student exchange as part of the degree studies. What kind of career opportunities does the graduate have? After graduation, you can work in different positions of energy or environmental engineering in research, supervision, planning and management. You can also work as an independent entrepreneur and in government positions related to the field. Depending on the professional orientation and area of responsibility, the job title may be, for example, a consultant, quality manager, energy expert, environmental manager, environmental planning officer, planning, research or development engineer, or project engineer.
